From the market gardens, citrus groves and subtropical fruit plantations that now blend with a number of new developments to the secluded nooks found within the town itself that remind you that this town has been inhabited for millennia.

In the past, the area was settled by the both the Phoenicians and the Turdetans who worked the nearby the silver and gold mines that existed in Alhaurin el Grande at the time. During the Roman era, the area was known as Lauro Vetus, an area of importance to the Roman Empire as it was mentioned in more than one chronicle of the time. As small note of historical interest, several historians believe this was the area where Julius Caesar slew Pompey after the battle Munda.

The municipality got the name Alhaurin from the Christians troops who conquered it from the Moors who had previously named it Alhaurein or Albarracin. The, 'de la Torre' was simply added to the name to help differentiate it from Alhaurin de la Grande.
